Episode 3 - The Fugitive
Mountain man, Grizzly Adams (Dan Haggerty) meets the incomparable Will Boker (Ken Berry), a song-and-dance man, magician and “jack-of-all-trades”, who has a different scheme for every situation. Adams rescues Boker from drowning in a churning river and takes him to his cabin. Boker explains that he lost a carpetbag carrying all his “worldly possessions” when he fell in the river. When they locate the carpetbag, however, Adams discovers its full of money. Boker says that the money innocently fell into his hands by accident during a bank robbery…and since the sheriff assumed he was guilty, he had no choice but to run.
Ma Jack (Denver Pyle) arrives with news that a posse is hot on the trail of Boker. Even though he already promised Adams he would return the money, Boker runs away and takes the loot with him.
Mad Jack stalls the posse while Adams goes after Boker, in hopes of convincing him to return the stolen cash. A rockslide injures Boker, but with Adams help, he goes back to town and turns himself in---telling the sheriff what actually happened.
The next time Adams and Mad Jack see Boker…he is a deputy sheriff with a new life in front of him.
